missgrills cocktail playlist: twofour tuesday

Patio Chatter: “just like i expected”, “perfect”, “yum, this rum gives such a vanilla caramely flavour to drinks”,  “shhh. i know it’s not tuesday. i am telling myself stories cause vacation is ending”

reading a few blogs. Watermelon and Seasalt. nice blog. huh, candle made out of an orange. ingenious. have grapefruit. love to repurpose things. have nothing better to do today except paint the trim, do dishes, clean my car….

and this is what happens when one has been on holidays for too long.  about two seconds into the candle project, i knew that the leftovers would be a cocktail.  sheit. i’m so resourceful i should have been a homesteader.

safety first. decide all oil fires should take place on the patio. box of baking soda in hand and head outside. took a long time to light. it works. not only did it work, but the flame stayed lit in winds gusting to 25 km/hr. these are worthy to be patio candles. used extra virgin olive oil which was prob not the best choice.

satisfied this wouldn’t take off in a a fireball. wandered back inside to that bowl of grapefruit. this is what happened next.

Spiced rum (Cruzan 9)
Pink grapefruit, half juiced (just shut it. been called worse)
Lemon, half juiced
Soda water.

pour all over ice and stir. my ratios were about 1:1:1 for rum:soda:juice.

it was perfect. am really starting to enjoy the richness that spiced rum brings to patio cocktails. very happy i added Cruzan 9 to the home bar. spiced rum is officially a new staple.

cheers!

  1. Thank you – and I love your cocktail option. I was thinking them perfect for windy conditions, and patio sort of set ups just because they are cute. You confirmed the windproof option – thank you !

    • i was pretty amazed. it is about 99% humidity here right now… they stood up to that and the wind. a typical candle wouldnt have had a chance!

what do you think?
