cocktail playlist: green tinted goggles

Patio Chatter: “cilantro smells fantastic”, “why didn’t I imagine some such concoction before?, “thank you all blogging bartenders”

so, saturday. 2 pm. pretty hot on the patio. decided what better to do than to butcher someone’s cocktail recipe and live blog about it while drinking.

green tinted goggles a nice tall adaptation of The Boo Lion’s (The Return of) The Green Hornet  which is an adaption of Spill Check’s Rumford Punch. both are really something close to a margarita on the rocks minus salt minus triple sec plus cilantro plus tea plus ginger plus frangelico minus frangelico…well you get the picture.

point is if you know the rules inside the box, you can then create magic working outside of it… mixing drinks is much like jazz improv i suppose. but really in this case, i mostly just copied Boo Lions recipe.  but i used pinhead green tea. used fake ginger syrup. added more lime juice and tea. didn’t strain. served tall over rocks. needed a tall cool drink to beat the heat.

point is, it is really tasty.  tequila, cilantro and lime is officially a new cocktail jumping off point.

Tequila (Herencia de Plata tequila reposado in this case)
Green tea, brewed and chilled
Lime
Cilantro
My new fake ginger syrup

instructions: go make a mojito but use this stuff instead.

cocktail jumping off point you ask. the tasty trio of tequila, cilantro and lime is the start of many tasty patio drinks ahead.  have muddled up a shaker glass full of cilantro and lime. hibiscus lemon tea brewing and mason jar of plum simple syrup in my fridge. hmm might add some triple sec in true margarita style for another layer of citrus.  have a good feeling about that.

cheers!

Editorial Note: simplified from ‘missgrills cocktail playlist’ to ‘cocktail playlist’. starting to feel really obnoxious using my fake name in third person.

  1. I’m glad you liked it, and it really is a jumping-off point – definitely not one of those recipes tht only works if you follow it exactly. We also made it mojito-style and loved it that way too.

    • The “triad” (as i now call teq, lime, and cilantro) does appear to go great with alot! I enjoyed it with teas for the remainder of the day. My friend got hooked on it with oj and soda. thanks again for the ideas!
